My initial reply did not address any of your questions but I wanted you to know that people have done a full rebuild on the sporty starting with no Harley mechanical knowledge (Although I had built a few dirt bikes). So if there is more front end swap info out there, please share. I will make my own decisions on how much to chew, but first I need to put the entree and the sides on the plate to see if I have a hamburger and fries, or one of those 7 pound steak ultimate eating challenges. If that is the case, I will still make it mechanically sound and just accept the bike for its ratty looks.īut my intention in making this post was to find those people out there who have done a similar project, or know of other sources of information. But after I accrue the information on all the options, and add up the costs for each option, maybe its just not feasible to do within the budget. Something like the Indian FTR is the look I am thinking of. I have always wanted to do an inverted fork conversion on a sportster to go in the Scrambler/Trackster direction. I analyze and research my options before I choose an option, to a fault. Yes, I will be browsing the junkyards for parts, and rebuilding parts myself. To be more specific, I am aiming for a budget of less than $3000 to make the bike mechanically sound, and if possible do the front end swap. Those would make things much easier, but they cost more than my entire budget.

I did mention that this is a low budget project because I know that those 'balls to the wall' packages are out there. More than I can chew? Thats not helpful is it? My fault, I assumed people joined these forums to learn and help each other out. I doubt any one person has all the answers, so looking for good sources to find the information.

Is there a fork that only needs a new stem?.

What would the rake changes be for swapping out both the front and rear wheel?.

How do I even begin to find out what attachments I need?

Handle bar attachments: different top trees are made that provide different ways to attach handle bars.

Rear wheel.what about the belt drive attachment? This will require caliper attachments, and brake controls.

If you change the rear wheel, you will also need to change the rear brakes.

What I dont know is, can you install the rear wheel that matches the front wheel ? For instance swap the front with GSXR and its front wheel, can you install the matching rear wheel? Will this require modification to the swing arm?.One is by changing the offset in the triples (done by the manufacturer), and the other is by a front wheel hub made specifically for the fork to lace on a 19 in. There are two ways to counteract the change in the rake. The reason why the wheel size matters is because if you put one of these front ends on with its front wheel, this will change the rake, which might cause the handling to become difficult with a steeper rake. Typically the wheel size on the donor bikes are both 17 inches. The wheels on these bikes are smaller in size than the 19 inch sportster front wheel, but larger than the 16 inch rear wheel. I know that in order to do the swap I will need new triples and stem to mount them. The forks are GSXR, CBR1000RR, CBR600RR, ZX6R, and R1/R6. The things I have found so far, are the types of forks typically used for the swap and a few places that offer parts for sale like Cognito Moto. The more I research, the more questions I have. Looking for a good source of information cause I have so many questions. Is there a thread somewhere that I have not found yet?
